5. Stella Walsh, 1936 Olympics
After winning a gold medal in the 100m women’s race, the Polish track and field athlete’s gender was strongly questioned, as critics claimed she was too fast to actually be a woman. After being examined, it was confirmed that she was a woman; however, an autopsy following her death revealed she did in fact have the male chromosome and was intersex.
