3. Jim Thorpe, 1912 Olympics
Widely known as one of the best athletes of all time, Thorpe was stripped of his 1912 Olympic Gold medals in both the pentathlon and decathlon after it had been discovered that he had been a paid semi-pro baseball player for two years. During this time, it was an Olympic rule that the competitors be amateurs. His Olympic medals, however, were later restored in 1983 (30 years after his death).
