Some Breakthroughs
They finally got what they were looking for: two chests with coins filled to the brim. They also found a bunch of gold links that were remnants of a chain. But the origins of this chain remained a mystery. In 1850, the explorers returned to the pit and drilled another hole close to the previous one. But once again, it filled with water and the crew were forced to retreat. However, after all hope seemed to be lost, another major discovery was made.
